Team USA & USA Hockey Arena Set For Pucks and Pups Weekend

Inaugural event features dog bowl giveaway and Dinky Dog Derby

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - USA Hockey’s National Team Development Team and USA Hockey Arena will partner with the Humane Society of Huron Valley to host its inaugural Pucks & Pups Weekend this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 23-24 at 7 p.m. ET) when the U.S. National Under-18 and Under-17 Teams take on the Central Illinois Flying Aces of the United States Hockey League.

Friday night will feature dogs available for adoption located on the concourse and the first 500 fans will also receive a limited edition USA Hockey dog bowl.

Saturday night will feature the NTDP’s inaugural Dinky Dog Derby. Dogs under 15 pounds can enter the on-ice intermission race. Fans can register their Dinky Dog for the race and costume contest here.

Proceeds from various activities throughout the weekend as well as a portion of the ticket price from tickets bought online in advance at this link will be shared with the Humane Society of Huron Valley.

We are excited to start a tradition with our Pucks and Pups Weekend," said Scott Monaghan, senior director of operations for the NTDP. "We are always looking to support local causes and dogs hold a special place in the hearts of many of our players and staff members."

All weekend you can donate clean towels and blankets to be donated to HSHV for a chance to win prizes from local event sponsors. There will also be giveaways from local pet businesses throughout the weekend.

"We are thrilled to be a part of Pucks and Pups weekend and to partner with USA Hockey Arena," said Joy Johnson, special events coordinator for the Humane Society of Huron Valley. "We are grateful to USA Hockey for their support, we appreciate all their efforts in helping the homeless and abused animals in our community."

ABOUT THE NTDP: USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program enters its 21st season of competition and is based at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. The goal of the full-time development program is to prepare student-athletes under the age of 18 for participation on U.S. National Teams and success in their future hockey careers. Its efforts focus not only on high-caliber participation on the ice, but creating well-rounded individuals off the ice.
