Nation’s best 15-year-old youth players to compete for top honors in Plymouth next week

USA Hockey Arena will serve as host for the 2018 USA Hockey Youth Tier I National Championship Tournament for 15-year-olds. The tournament will run from April 5-10, 2018, bringing the nation’s top youth players to the home of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program.

Last year, the Yale (Connecticut) Junior Bulldogs won USA Hockey’s inaugural national championship for 15-year-olds, skating past the Colorado Evolution 7-2 in Arizona. This year, the event shifts to suburban Detroit, a mere 23 miles from where USA Hockey crowned its very first national champion on April 3, 1938, at the Olympia.

In all, 16 teams representing each USA Hockey district will skate in the national championship tournament for 15-year-olds. The first three days will include 24 round-robin games. The top two teams from each of the four divisions will advance to the quarterfinals, which will be played Sunday, April 8. Semifinal games will be played Monday, April 9, and the championship game will be held Tuesday, April 10.

The 16 teams that will compete in the tournament are: Alaska Oilers (Alaska), Boston Advantage (Massachusetts), Buffalo Junior Sabres (New York), CCYHA (Connecticut), Chicago Mission (Illinois), Cleveland Barons (Ohio), Junior Coyotes (Arizona), Little Caesars (Michigan), Mercer Chiefs (New Jersey), Minnesota Blue Ox (Minnesota), Oakland Junior Grizzlies (Michigan), Rochester Youth Hockey (New York), St. Louis AAA Blues (Missouri), Team Maryland (Maryland), Team North Dakota (North Dakota), and Team Wisconsin (Wisconsin).

On Wednesday, April 4, at USA Hockey Arena, there will be a mandatory team manager/head coaches' meeting at 5:45 p.m. ET, followed by a reception for parents and players and an opening ceremony at 7 p.m. ET.

The Phoenix Junior Coyotes will take on CCYHA in the opening game at 11:45 a.m. ET on April 5.

All games will be streamed live on HockeyTV.com. A specific game schedule and more information can be found here.
